Hello World

When I founded Kansas City Women in Technology (KCWiT) in 2014, working for a non-profit full time was never my goal. I was a software engineer that just wanted to help make it easier for other women to get the support they need in the technical field. In the 6+ years I was the president of KCWiT and running day-to-day operations, I kept my fulltime job as a software engineer. I had to be ruthlessly efficient with my time to maximize my ability to create the impact I wanted to see, and my deep technical background meant I had the insight and tools at my disposal to do so.

The idea of The Nonprofit Engineer was actually born more than five years ago after meeting with our lawyers to establish Kansas City Women in Technology’s 501c3 status - the lawyers were shocked at our extreme level of efficiency, organization and outcomes we were able to achieve in just a few years with no paid staff. It was then I realized that our technical prowess for careers in software engineering gave us a unique edge and ability to execute leanly that many nonprofits don’t have.
